About the concert
The Druz’ya Quartet bring their signature warmth and enthusiasm to this special family concert.
Through expressive playing and friendly conversation from the stage, they guide audiences on a journey through different soundscapes, introducing each instrument and sharing the stories behind the music.
Designed to be welcoming, interactive and fun, this concert is an ideal outing for families looking to experience live music in a relaxed and joyful setting.
About the Druz’ya Quartet
The Druz’ya Quartet was formed in early 2017 while preparing Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 under the mentorship of the New Zealand String Quartet. Rather than becoming ‘just another Shostakovich Quartet group’, the players searched for a name that captured what chamber music meant to them. They landed on ‘Druz’ya’ — Russian for friends — reflecting the ensemble’s collaborative spirit.
After winning the NZCT Secondary Schools’ Chamber Music Contest in 2017 and attending the Adam Summer School in 2018, the group continued to evolve, at times welcoming new friends into the ensemble and giving workshops with the Wairarapa Youth Orchestra.
The Druz’ya Quartet has been involved with the Martinborough Music Festival’s schools concerts since 2020 and they are thrilled to return this year for the festival’s first-ever family concert.
